FAQs about Council Events
Why are exact locations of events not listed?
For safety reasons. We do not make locations, dates and times of gatherings of girls available in publications or on the web, as both are available to the general public. We send exact locations to registered troops in event confirmations. If you would like location info before registering, please email lsouza@gscsm.org including your full name and troop affiliation, and she will email the info to you.

Where can I find directions to an event?
In the confirmation that will be sent to participating troops after registration closes. Confirmations are sent by email unless the contact volunteer has requested paper mail. Although we give directions, we cannot anticipate the origination points of every troop and the details on your end. Please consult MapQuest, as we do, for complete directions from your starting point.

I’m a troop volunteer.  Why didn’t I receive an event confirmation?
There are several possible reasons. Your registration or payment may be incomplete. Someone else’s name may be on the application (confirmations are sent to the originators). You may not have checked your email at the address given on the application, or your email address may have changed since you registered as a member. If none of these applies to you, please contact lsouza@gscsm.org.

Can girls who registered but didn’t come receive patches?
Only registered girl members who attend an event are entitled to patches.

Where do program patches belong on the uniform?
On the back of the girl’s vest or sash.

Can our leadership team get badges/patches at events?
Our volunteers are enthusiastic about the awards and patches the girls earn, and sometimes want to get a patch for themselves. However, in Girl Scouts there’s a distinction between awards and patches the girls earn and fun patches for adults. Please leave the girl awards for the girls, and take pride in wearing the uniform and insignia of adult Girl Scouts. It’s important that a person wear only awards that she has earned, and adults don’t earn girl awards.

Why can’t I bring as many adults as I want to programs?
Sites we rent for programs have specified capacities. We cannot accommodate extra adults without turning girls away from programs, which we will not do. Consult Safety-Wise for exact adult/girl ratios for programs.

Can I bring non-participating children to a program?
Only registered Girl Scouts of the appropriate level may participate in council programs. They are developmentally and educationally appropriate only for the age group specified. Other children will be asked to remain quietly in the adult area, and must be under the direct supervision of a parent at all times. No exceptions.

How do I know what to bring to the program?
All info about the event will be contained in the confirmation that you will receive via email or in the mail (mail by special request only). The volunteer who registers the troops will receive the confirmation.

Does my troop have to attend all Brownie Big 4, Junior Jam or Teen Scene Programs?
Each program stands independently, but we suggest you attend them all. The series are designed to give girls a well-rounded experience spanning all aspects of the Girl Scout program, and to make it educational and fun. Patches assemble into one large patch and can also be worn individually.

If a troop member decides to come at the last minute, can I bring her?
Occasionally, cancellations allow us to take last minute participants. You must contact us to find out if there is possible. If there is, you will need to register the additional girl through normal procedures. Call x18.

Are religious awards just for Catholic girls?
No. Awards for many organized religions are available through Girl Scouts, including most Protestant denominations, Judaism, Friends, Eastern Orthodox, Islam, Hinduism and Baha’i. Call x33 for info.

When should a girl start working on a religious award?
She can start any time. The council event honoring those who have completed religious awards is generally held in the spring. If she would like to be recognized then, she should schedule her work accordingly.

Do girls have to be in troops to earn a religious award?
Religion is personal, and religious awards are earned individually, not as troops.
