Program in a Box
|
|
description |
This program educates
girls about issues faced by persons with mental and
physical disabilities and by the elderly.
Accessibility, physical challenges and sports,
Helping Hand Monkeys and other service animals and
the language of disability are all included in the
six lessons. Girls will learn to be Giraffes --
people who stick their necks out to make the world
better!
Most modules have a prop to help get the point
across and to make the experience memorable. Allow
about 45 minutes for each mini-lesson. The box
includes plans for donation projects for physically
or mentally challenged and senior communities, like
no-sew seat cushions, flash cards, beanbags and
touch and feel books. There’s also a guide for
running a disability awareness fair, where girls can
attempt simple daily activities while mirroring a
disability. They learn first-hand about the
challenges faced by persons with disabilities every
day.
Girls can earn the Yes, I Can program patch
by completing one learning module and one project
for donation to an agency for use by the senior
citizen or disabled communities. |

reserve |
Your troop can borrow this packaged program, which
contains everything needed to run it during your
meetings, including instructions, activities, sample
projects, shopping lists for materials and
explanations of the purpose and results you should
expect. The leadership team conducts the program at
their own pace, so it is perfectly suited to the
level and abilities of the girls. The program is
available on loan, free of charge, from the Service
Center. If you notify us ahead of time, we can
deliver to your next Service Unit meeting. To
reserve, submit an
online request form, or email
Lola Furtado. |
